“Old School” Joint of the Day: Gang Starr feat. Nice & Smooth “DWYCK”

 Childhood Block

There are some songs you hear and you can’t help remembering exactly where you  were when they came out. With the case of Old School Rap music, I always remember my younger days growing up at the Betances Houses. Oh you guys didn’t know I am kid from the PJ’s? Yup it’s true. I have the stolen “Brook Ave.” street sign to prove it.

Anyhow, these songs remind me of my days hanging out behind Grandma’s house with Danny, Stevie, Eddie, and Nikki. Re-enacting the tennis ball obstacle course from “American Gladiators” with rocks, ruining the St. Pius V afterschool program, or not going to our Summer Community Center program in favor of running around the neighborhood, we sure had a lot of fun back then.

One of my favorite songs that reminds me of these times is “DWYCK”. It is also the first rap song that I was able to completely memorize (Thanks to Alexa).

It was a staple on Video Music Box when it came out.

Why is there a Writers Strike right now?

So everyone is talking about the WGA strike, but no one is really explaining why it’s happening.

Here is a very detailed YouTube Clip that explains what this strike is about.

My New Game Show Obsession: “Cash Cab”

Cash Cab

I was with Joel last week flicking through the channels on TV and we both came across this show. At first glance it looks like a bootleg “Taxicab Confessions” but then when we continued to watch, we realized it was in fact a gameshow.

The Discovery Channel’s “Cash Cab” is an American adaptation of a UK show. The show is hosted by stand up comedian Ben Bailey. The premise of the show is about Ben driving a cab around NYC and picks people up. The folks are unaware that they are in the “Cash Cab” until a crazy ass disco light goes off and Ben informs them that they are on a game show.

The rules of the “Cash Cab” are simple. The passengers have to answer general knowledge questions for money. They can only get 3 questions wrong or else they are thrown out of the “Cash Cab”. The passengers who are able to make it to their destination without getting 3 questions wrong keep their earnings.

Sure the money won isn’t OD Crazy like “Deal or No Deal”, but watching regular New Yorker’s winning decent money paid in cash is fun to watch.

I know I am mad late with discovering this show since it’s been on since 2005. But hey, if anyone out there is like me and has not seen this show, I suggest you tune in ASAP. And with no end in sight to the WGA strike, I suggest you all start finding alternative programming that isn’t cheeseball reality shows.

At least with watching “Cash Cab” you can also test your brain and learn stuff.

“Cash Cab” airs weeknights at 5 and 5:30 on The Discovery Channel.

Partner Let Me Upgrade You, Audemars Piguet You, Switch Yo TV Service To Cable?

I was at the gym exercising and all of a sudden during ESPN’s Sports Center this commercial came on.

At first I thought they changed the TV and put on MTV Hits, but then I heard WiggyPopLocksNWails break from her “Sasha” character to start talking about upgrading your TV service to Direct TV.

For real Beyonce? Seriously?

I can’t knock her hustle, because this is the type of crazy random shit that keeps you famous. Because if I were in the spotlight I’d probably shill random shit too.

But again, seriously, cable service? What’s next? Chilling with that unsupervised Verizon FIOS kid?

My Grandmother is very ill…

What’s up guys? I am sorry I have been away from my blog for a while.

For those of you who know me personally, you may know that my Grandmother is unfortunately suffering from end etage Alzheimer’s Disease.  At the time that I am writing this, she is in the hospital and is ill. We received word earlier this week from her nursing home that she had a very high fever and also had trouble breathing. She was taken to the Emergency Room.

It turns out her feeding tube backed up and fluid got into her lungs. This is what is causing her trouble breathing. Due to her having end stage Alzheimer’s Disease, the doctors were unable to perform a successful intubation to help her breathe. With her condition she won’t be able to recover from one, and if it were successful, she will have to rely on it for her breathing going forward. At this time the doctors are just trying to make her comfortable.

This is needless to say this has been a difficult time for my family. I would like to thank everyone who has called me with their support.

So if I am away from posting this week, you all now know what’s up.
