Are you ready for a “Friday The 13th” remake?

This news has been floating around the internet for a long time already.

New Line Cinema got the rights to the Jason Voorhees character in the 90’s, but I don’t think they secured the rights to the “Friday The 13th” name. That’s why every Jason movie after “Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan” hasn’t had the “Friday” name in the title.

Jason Goes To Hell, Jason X, Freddy vs Jason. None had the infamous “Friday The 13th” moniker.

But that is changing. Platinum Dunes, the horror shingle owned by Michael Bay and the people responsible for “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”“The Amityville Horror” and “The Hitcher” remakes is remaking “Friday The 13th”. But it’s not a direct remake because everyone knows Jason Voorhees didn’t kill anyone until part 2. It was Jason’s Mama doing all the work in part 1.

They have been talking about remaking F13 since “The Hitcher” remake came out. And Jonathan Leibsman (who directed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning”) was supposed to direct. Now they hired writers. But that doesn’t fill me with much confidence. Because it’s the same writers who wrote the diabolically awful “Freddy vs Jason”.

So is this remake DOA? Maybe not. I just hope that if they reboot the franchise, they take the character of Jason a little more seriously. Sure Jason was never Citizen Kane, but if they just worry about making a fast paced slasher film with Jason front and center killing kids at camp, there is money to be made here. Don’t make the mistake of explaining away so much nonsense. It’s easy.

Jason + The Woods + Good Looking Teenagers + Good Chase/Kill Sequences = Good Movie.

If “Saw” can be released EVERY Halloween to good results, the same can happen with a reboot of the Friday The 13th series.

Just keep it simple. No “Zombieween” type remake here OK? I’m really not in the mood to see a young Jason crying on his porch as his mother strips to “Love Hurts”.
