The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that The CW is planning to remake “Beverly Hills 90210″.
“The most popular ZIP code on television is coming back.
The CW is developing a contemporary spinoff of Aaron Spelling’s seminal 1990s teen soap “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
“Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas is in talks to pen the project, which has been put on the fast track by the network.
Details about the spinoff — including which if any of the characters on the original series will make the transition to the new show — remain sketchy. CW is expected to make a decision whether to order a pilot by the end of the month.”
I was a fan of the “Brenda” seasons of “90210″ (after she left I stopped watching). I can somewhat see this show fitting in with the CW’s demographic. It also helps that “Veronica Mars” mastermind Rob Thomas is on board helm the show. But I have to say, there are PLENTY of 90’s cheeseball TV shows that can be remade. Why “90210″?
For starters, instead of a “90210″ Revamp, Rob Thomas skills would be better utilized in a remake of “21 Jumps Street”.
“21 Jump Street” would be a good TV remake. Someone get on it STAT! It would be like “Veronica Mars” again. The CW already has “Gossip Girl” as their guilty pleasure “Rich Kids” soap, a remake of “90210″ would be silly. Especially since “The O.C.” tried to mine similar territory and it would up failing in the end. It all hinges on casting. If they can cast good actors like the ones on “Gossip Girl” they can have a hit.
While we are at it, can they revamp “Saved By The Bell” too? But this time they should try it as a dramedy where Zach Morris is now a guidance counselor at Bayside. It could work. I am a believer that anything can work if you take it seriously.
What do you think about a “90210″ remake? Will you watch?
